New Direction

Wow, it’s been so long since I’ve put pen to paper. I hope wherever this finds you, you are safe in these uncertain times. So much has gone on in the past few months, and I’ve been taking some time to reflect on what I really want this blog to be. Let me quickly update you on life here, then I’ll fill you in on where I’m headed with the blog.

First thing- we are expecting our third child! It’s definitely a crazy time to be pregnant and who knows what things will be like when the baby is born, but we are very excited to add to our family. The kids are thrilled to have a new brother or sister, although they’ve had trouble accepting that there’s only one baby. On the other hand, I am fine with just one…

The homestead is moving along with what feels like and may very well be one thousand projects. Our goats all had kids in March, we butchered our first batch of meat chickens, and now we are plowing into garden season. We recently purchased a 100 foot high tunnel which was a major undertaking, but it will be so worth it. We are putting two 25 foot sections in our main garden and setting up a 50 foot section in our back yard. I can’t wait to see how these tunnels will extend our growing season! We also just added an adorable katahdin lamb to the homestead. We definitely went sheep in the future, so getting some experience with him is so beneficial.

Our plans for the rest of the summer include preserving as much food as possible, adding pigs to the mix again, and butchering another round of meat chickens. It will be a summer filled with tons of hard work, but I’m so looking forward to the wonderful rewards.

So, what does the future hold for this blog? It started off as a place to document our homestead progress, and I want to continue to do that, but I also feel as though I need to branch out and write about where my heart really lies: parenting and homeschooling. Seeing as our kids are young, and we haven’t started formal lessons yet, I’ll be focusing on the early years and what our plans are for the future. To me, homesteading, homeschooling, and parenting all go hand in hand here, so this should be an easy transition. I hope you’ll stick around as I continue to share our family’s adventures and my passions with you.

What are your plans for the summer? I’d love to hear from you! Comment below, and let me know what you’re up to!

    1. Thank you! We have been busy for sure, but it’s worth it! I’m about half way through the pregnancy, and the time is definitely flying! I have a lot I need to get done before the baby is here, that’s for sure!😝

  2. We are busy with 2 gardens; one here at the house and sharing space in the community garden at Green Bank. It is such a great thing to have. I’d be interested in where you got your greenhouse and how wide it is, we have been thinking of doing the tunnels but have no experience with it. We homeschooled and I loved it, I am so excited for you and your growing family.

    1. Oh, that’s awesome! I can’t believe I didn’t know there was a community garden. That’s so great! We got our tunnels from Farmers Friend. What we purchased is 100 feet long and 14 feet wide. So far things are growing great in what we have assembled. I’m so excited to homeschool! We still have a little but of time before we start, but it’s nice to preplan and dream!😊
